[postlink] http://studyandhealthcaretips.blogspot.com/2012/08/best-student-cities-in-world-2012.html[/postlink]
London has been named one of the best student cities in the world in new rankings published today, coming second to Paris.
Four of the UK's largest cities have made it onto a global ranking of student cities, with London coming second in the world behind Paris.

The first global student cities rankings, published today by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) show a list dominated by European cities - Vienna, Zurich, Berlin and Dublin all make it into the top 10 and there are are 20 overall in the top 50.

Only cities with populations of more than 250,000 and home to two or more ranked universities were analysed by researchers who took into consideration quality of living, affordability and reputation of the university amongst other indicators.

London beat ManchesterBirmingham and Glasgow on the top 50 list and was also highlighted in the research as the 'only city in the world with three of the world's top 30 universities' with institutions such as University College London (UCL), Imperial College and King's College Londonappearing in the QS World University Rankings at seventh, eighth and 27th place respectively.
Boris Johnson said of the results, "I'm delighted to learn that London has once again been confirmed as one of the best places on earth to be a student. With the Olympic Games just around the corner, London is undergoing an enormous transformation."
The list by category score can be found below. We also have the list detailing instiutions which were featured in the research in our spreadsheet and a chart showing the top 25 student cities by overall score.

4 Secrets to Winning a Speech Contest

[postlink] http://studyandhealthcaretips.blogspot.com/2012/08/4-secrets-to-winning-speech-contest.html[/postlink]
I have interviewed several District Conference speech champions and I have asked them the vital question, How do you win a speech contest?  What is the big secret of Discon champions that sets them apart from the rest and makes them winners? As it turns out, it’s not really a secret after all. They all had different answers. But if I could summarize them into four points, it would be this:

Secret #1:
Acquire the vision:
If you can’t see it in your mind, you won’t be able to manifest it in your physical world. Champions see themselves as such before they’ve even won their first trophy. It’s called visualization. The clearer you see your goal in your mind, the bigger the chance that you will realize it. So see yourself on stage delivering that winning speech

Secret #2:
Learn from the experts:
No matter what we want to accomplish in life, chances are that someone has already been there and done that. Winning a national competition is not rocket science. Thousands before you have already done it. It’s not easy. But it can be done. Ask for the advice of past champions. Watch winning speeches on YouTube. Read books about public speaking. Use every resource you have to your advantage.

Secret #3:
Practice, practice, practice:
Seeing yourself deliver that winning speech in your head is just the beginning. Nothing can still take the place of practice. Preparation is the key to success. Public speaking is all about practice. The more you practice your speech the better you’ll become. If you can, practice in front of mentors so you can get feedback afterwards.
Winning a speech contest is often a group effort.

Secret #4:
Believe:
Have faith in yourself and in your abilities. According to Henry Ford, whether you think you can or you can’t, you are right. In other words what you believe shapes your reality. Our belief is the thermostat that determines what we accomplish in our life. Therefore it is not enough that we want to win. We should also EXPECT to win.

Studying in Canada: Applying for a visa

[postlink] http://studyandhealthcaretips.blogspot.com/2012/08/studying-in-canada-applying-for-visa.html[/postlink]

More than 90,000 students come to study in Canada every year and even more come to Canada to learn English or French. Foreign students bring a rich culture to our classrooms. Your knowledge and skills are welcome in our schools.
In Canada, the provinces and territories have jurisdiction over education. For more detailed information on living and studying in a specific province or territory, contact the school where you wish to study.

Persons wishing to study in Canada require both a Study Permit and a Temporary Resident Visa. The application for a study permit includes the application for a Temporary Resident Visa.

Please note that an application for a Study Permit must include an original letter of acceptance from a Canadian Educational Institution. The application will be returned as incomplete if the original letter of acceptance is not submitted.
A study permit procedures can take some time to finalize, it is recommended that the complete application is submitted 2 -3 months before the start of classes and no later than 1 month before the start of classes.

Important Notice:

Please note that if your application is successful, you will be issued with a study permit along with a temporary resident visa valid for multiple entries or one single entry.
If you are issued a SINGLE ENTRY visa you will be allowed to enter Canada only once; however, it may also be used for repeated entries into Canada from the United States or St. Pierre et Miquelon only. Such entries must occur within the time authorized for your stay in Canada. Therefore, if, for example, you decide to return to Pakistan at any time, you will have to re-apply for a temporary resident visa at a Canadian visa office outside Canada if you want to re-enter Canada. Your application for a new temporary resident visa must include proof of your continued enrolment at the institution in Canada as well as originals of your most recent academic records (transcripts, marks sheets, etc.

I'm unenthusiastic about teaching, but it's hard to move on

[postlink] http://studyandhealthcaretips.blogspot.com/2012/08/im-unenthusiastic-about-teaching-but.html[/postlink]
I am a part-time teacher, having reduced my hours several times. I have little enthusiasm for the job and an Ofsted inspection two years ago graded a lesson of mine "inadequate", which knocked my confidence for six. A more recent lesson was "satisfactory", but this is no longer good enough in today's world, and I would be unlikely to get another job when every school is asking for "outstanding" teachers.

During a gap in teaching I worked in libraries and as a teaching assistant, which I found much less stressful, but felt under pressure to return to teaching once my daughter was older. Efforts over the past year to find another job have not been successful, and I am caught in the trap of having to give at least half a term's notice, which precludes many positions outside teaching as they tend to advertise at the last minute.

On top of all this, my drive to work is nearly an hour each way, and I would like to find a job closer to home. Please help me to move forward out of this muddle.
