London has been named one of the best student cities in the world in new rankings published today, coming second to Paris.
Four of the UK's largest cities have made it onto a global ranking of student cities, with London coming second in the world behind Paris.
The first global student cities rankings, published today by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) show a list dominated by European cities - Vienna, Zurich, Berlin and Dublin all make it into the top 10 and there are are 20 overall in the top 50.
Only cities with populations of more than 250,000 and home to two or more ranked universities were analysed by researchers who took into consideration quality of living, affordability and reputation of the university amongst other indicators.

London beat Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow on the top 50 list and was also highlighted in the research as the 'only city in the world with three of the world's top 30 universities' with institutions such as University College London (UCL), Imperial College and King's College Londonappearing in the QS World University Rankings at seventh, eighth and 27th place respectively.
Boris Johnson said of the results, "I'm delighted to learn that London has once again been confirmed as one of the best places on earth to be a student. With the Olympic Games just around the corner, London is undergoing an enormous transformation."
